Appeal to Be Heard on Simpson Kids Custody
A hearing is scheduled next week to hear Louis and Juditha Brown’s appeal for custody of their grandchildren, the son and daughter of O.J. Simpson.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Nancy Wieben Stock ruled in December 1996 that Simpson should have full custody of Sydney and Justin. The judge granted the Browns visitation rights and asked attorneys for both sides to reach an agreement on a visitation schedule.
Simpson said in a written statement that the Browns would “continue as active grandparents.”
The children lived with the Browns in Dana Point after the fatal stabbing of their mother, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman outside her Brentwood condominium. They returned to their father’s home after he was acquitted of the slayings.
Last year, the Browns called for legislation in Sacramento that would deny custody to any parent convicted of domestic violence or found civilly liable for the wrongful death of the other parent. O.J. Simpson had a previous conviction for battering Nicole, and a civil jury found him liable in her death and that of Goldman.
The Browns’ appeal, filed under seal, will be heard Friday at the 4th District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana.
