An investment banking firm is contributing $5,000 toward two teacher-training workshops for the Oxnard School District.

Smith-Barney has contributed the money to the Anti-Defamation League, which is sponsoring the “A World of Difference” workshops.

The A World of Difference Institute of the Anti-Defamation League offers programs and workshops for educators, staff members, parents and students. The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, fights anti-Semitism through programs and services to overcome hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

Toward that end, the workshops are designed to increase awareness of diversity issues.

“We understand the importance of diversity in our schools and we hope that our sponsorship of ADL’s program will make a difference in the Oxnard community,” a Smith-Barney official said in a statement.

The training sessions are scheduled for the James Cowan Conference Center in Camarillo from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Sept.10.

County schools Supt. Charles Weis is expected to attend the second training session.
