In 1962, the Rams trailed the underdog Minnesota Vikings, 31-0, at halftime at the Coliseum. Murray was asked to go on Ram radio at halftime.

The announcer introduced Jim snidely by saying, “Well, here’s the famous Jim Murray. Say something funny, Jim.”

Murray didn’t pause and said, “The Rams.”

Needless to say, not many Times writers were invited as guests anymore on Ram radio.

On another occasion in the 1960s, the Rams were in Baltimore to play the Colts. On the eve of the game, Murray, Ram publicist Jack Teele and I got into a cab to go out to dinner at a famous Baltimore restaurant.
