Spotlight: Computer Virus Strikes Again on the 26th

Share

A computer virus that activates on the 26th of each month apparently has struck hundreds and possibly more machines. L.A.-based Ontrack Data International Inc., which helps retrieve lost files, said the Win95.CIH virus had hit 500 computers at a single company and clusters of 100 or 200 elsewhere. Early indications suggested it could be the most devastating virus seen in years. The virus first appeared in April and infects Microsoft’s Windows 95 and 98 software. It can delete file contents or cause a system crash.
