Trouble Hearing ‘Rent’ Lyrics? The Problem Wasn’t Only in Orange County

I just read the letter from Raquel Garcia (Aug. 22), who thought she needed to have her hearing tested after seeing “Rent” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Raquel said she would make the trek next time to Los Angeles for shows. If she had done that she would have wasted not only her $200 for tickets, but also the time and cost of a drive to L.A.

The sound in L.A. was so bad that at intermission I got the special hearing device in an attempt to hear better. I still couldn’t understand the words. I had no problem hearing at the other Ahmanson productions, so I am attributing the problem to “Rent” itself. How many more would have enjoyed the show if they had been able to hear what was being said?
