Passing Train Aids Escape of Suspect

A handcuffed man who escaped a sheriff’s deputy by darting across train tracks in La Conchita was being sought Saturday by authorities.

After Jason Wayne Farrow, 21, was arrested on outstanding warrants about 9 p.m. Friday, Deputy Joe Rivas was momentarily distracted by an oncoming train, said a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Farrow, who had been lying on the ground, jumped up and ran across the tracks in front of the train, authorities said. Rivas could not find him after the train passed.

Rivas had responded to a call about a fight between Farrow and his father over missing tools. As Rivas approached the house, Farrow allegedly drove away. The deputy followed and arrested him near the train tracks.

Deputies on Saturday morning had received several reports that Farrow no longer was wearing handcuffs and was still in the area.

Farrow is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 200 pounds. He has a shaved head and blue eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 654-2311.
