BA Cracks Down on ‘Air Rage’
British Airways, which has led a three-year campaign against “air rage,” has added a new weapon to its arsenal: the “yellow card.” Starting Tuesday, cabin crew will hand disruptive passengers a “final notice” stating that they face arrest upon landing if they continue to misbehave--and will even be liable for costs if the captain decides to divert the plane to the nearest airport to discharge them.
BA logged more than 260 disruptive passengers last year. Drunkenness has been a common problem in the past, but currently, up to 70% of the incidents involve passengers defying BA’s smoking ban, in effect since March 29.
