Advanced Corneal Systems Inc., which develops experimental treatments for eye disorders, is anticipating its first sales.

The Irvine company said the Mexican National Ministry of Health has approved the sale of its top drug, Vitrase, as a treatment for eye hemorrhage. Company studies show that the drug clears blood that floods the watery gel inside the eye as a complication of diabetes and other diseases, a condition that can lead to permanent blindness.

The company plans to start selling the drug in Mexico early next year. Sophia Laboratories, a large Mexican distributor of eye medications, will handle distribution.
