Xircom to Focus on Japan, Open Tokyo Office

Xircom Inc. in Thousand Oaks has announced plans to focus efforts in the Japanese market by establishing a regional headquarters in Tokyo.

Yoji Matsuo will serve as general manager of Xircom Japan K. K. operations.

“Xircom is strengthening its investment in Japan to increase our presence and take advantage of the tremendous growth opportunities this market has to offer in mobile communications,” said Dirk Gates, Xircom chairman, president and CEO. “Japan represents 73% of all Asia Pacific portable PC shipments, and the establishment of a full in-country subsidiary allows us to focus our efforts on a market that is vital to Xircom’s growth.”

Before joining Xircom, Matsuo was general manager of the support software package provider Cybermedia K. K. He spent six years as chief financial officer for Novell Japan K. K., where he managed the initial public offering, negotiated investment projects and prepared financial statements.

Xircom, founded in 1988, manufactures an integrated PC card and PC card products to connect portable computer users to corporate networks, the Internet and other online resources.
