Teaching Kids to Reject Hate Is Discussion Topic

Share

The Anti-Defamation League will host a panel discussion for parents tonight about teaching children to reject hatred and prejudice.

With brutal crimes such as the Wyoming slaying of gay college student Matthew Shepard making national news, and hate rhetoric on the Internet, the event seeks to offer “information and insight [that] can help broach a difficult issue,” said organizer Nancy Zangwill, the ADL’s associate director of community service.

The free event will be moderated by Marlene Adler Marks, a columnist for the Jewish Journal. Panelists will include Elliott Gould, the actor who recently appeared in “American History X,” a film about neo-Nazi skinheads in Venice.

The other panelists are Marleen Wong, a mental health director for the Los Angeles Unified School District who served as a consultant for the Oklahoma City Public School District after the 1995 federal building bombing there; and Marjorie B. Green, the ADL’s national director of educational policy and programs.

The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd in Encino.
