Reason for Why the Earth May Have Straightened Up Is Offered

Share

The presence of glaciers at the Earth’s equator 600 million years ago has led scientists to speculate that the tilt of the Earth’s axis may have been 55 degrees, compared to the current 23.5 degrees. Now, a group of scientists are offering an explanation for why that tilt may have occurred.

Researchers at Pennsylvania State University say the buildup and melting of glaciers during this period might have created enough force to cause the planet to straighten up on its axis.
