Premier Laser in Irvine Gets 4 Directors

Premier Laser Systems Inc. said four directors have been named to an expanded board, and two members are retiring. Stepping down are Grace Ching-Hsin Lin, 48, who has served on the board since 1992, and E. Donald Shapiro, 66, a director since 1994. The Irvine-based company, which makes medical lasers and other medical products, gave no explanation for the departures, except to say that Lin is leaving “to focus on other unrelated business ventures.” The new directors are: Lawrence Derrick Ashcroft, 71, retired chairman of Cardiopet Inc.,; Fredric J. Feldman, 59, a consultant to start-up health care companies, investment banks and venture capital groups; John D. Hunkeler, 57, president of Hunkeler Eye Centers and chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center; and Lewis H. Stanton, 45, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of software developer MAI Systems Corp.
