A robber pulled a gun on a postal worker Thursday and made off with $10,000, Los Angeles police reported.

Federal authorities released few details about the crime, which took place about 5:45 p.m. in the rear of the post office in the 9400 block of Arleta Avenue.

A female postal worker was unloading mail near a loading dock office when she was approached by a man wearing a red shirt and a ski mask, said Postal Service spokeswoman Pamela Prince.

The robber pulled a gun and put it to the woman’s head, Prince said. The man fled after the employee handed him mail.

“He demanded $10,000 in currency that was in the postal delivery bag,” LAPD Lt. Don Lehman said. “I don’t know if she was unloading the truck. This is unusual.”

Postal inspectors offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the conviction of the robber, Prince said.

Prince said she would not discuss whether money was taken or the amount. She urged anyone with information on the suspect or the crime to call U.S. postal inspectors.
