The “Sleepless in Seattle” team reunites for “You’ve Got Mail,” an update of the 1940 classic “The Shop Around the Corner.” Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, above, star for Nora Ephron in the romantic comedy about two booksellers who clash in real life while unwittingly courting each other via modem. It opens in general release Friday.

“The Prince of Egypt,” an animated historical epic, tells the story of Moses (with voice provided by Val Kilmer) and Ramses (voice of Ralph Fiennes). Others lending their vocal talents to the DreamWorks release, which opens Friday in general release, include Sandra Bullock, Michelle Pfeiffer and Steve Martin.

Theater

Hosted by Jon Voight and featuring Davis Gaines, a concert gala performance of “Masada: The Musical,” by Shuki Levy and Shell Danielson, will be staged Tuesday at the Shubert Theatre. It’s based on history’s account of 967 men, women and children who defied 15,000 Roman soldiers seeking to enslave them.

Music

Homecomings for two Southland pianists now resident on the East Coast take place today. Max Levinson plays an eclectic program in Zipper Concert Hall at the new Colburn School at 3 p.m. Andrew von Oeyen, now a student at the Juilliard School in New York, plays Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Santa Monica Symphony at 4:30 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

Art

Four years after the death of Victor Hugo, the French government commissioned Auguste Rodin to create a sculpture honoring the great writer. “Rodin’s Monument to Victor Hugo,” opening Thursday at LACMA, will feature a bronze cast, above, created from one of Rodin’s models for the sculpture--which never materialized--and 20 other related sculptures.

Jazz

For nearly 40 years, drummer Art Blakey proved to be a masterful talent scout and a major exponent for hard bop. Drummer Harvey Mason pays tribute to Blakey and his bands at the Jazz Bakery beginning Tuesday night.

Pop Music

Before techno there was techno-pop, a genre epitomized by Depeche Mode, above. The English band’s love affair with Southern California fans will be rekindled on its first tour in five years, coming to Cox Arena in San Diego on Tuesday, the Great Western Forum on Friday and Saturday and the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim next Sunday and Dec. 22.

Video

Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Joe Pesci and Rene Russo return yet again for “Lethal Weapon 4,” a mindless but action-packed action-comedy that should at least appeal to fans of the franchise. Chris Rock also stars in this “Weapon.” The movie arrives Tuesday in video stores.
