Leadership Academy Receives 2 Grants

* The Ventura County Leadership Academy has received grants from the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Foundation and DESTINO 2000: Hispanic Legacy Fund to support the academy’s community leadership development program.

The Smith foundation’s $500 grant will support the academy’s fourth leadership program, which is in session. The DESTINO 2000 grant of $1,500 will provide scholarships for the 1999 leadership program for two Ventura County Latino residents.

Oxnard’s Boys & Girls Club Given $2,000

* The Oxnard / Port Hueneme Boys & Girls Club received a $2,000 contribution from AutoNation USA in recognition of the opening of its used vehicle store in Oxnard.

Easter Seals Gets $9,500 in Contributions

* Easter Seals Tri-Counties received a $4,500 contribution from the Swift Memorial HealthCare Foundation board of directors. The money will be used to resurface the driveways and parking lots that surround Easter Seals’ Ventura location.

The chapter also announced that it received a $5,000 grant from the Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Foundation to support its preschool program.

Kinko’s Gives 900 Books, Videos to Libraries

* Ventura County Library Services Agency received a donation of more than 900 books and videos from Kinko’s employees. The book drive was initiated by the employees, who wanted to recognize founder Paul Orfeala’s birthday.

Children’s Museum Given Foundation Grant

* The Ventura County Gull Wings Children’s Museum received a $1,000 grant from the Smith-Hobson Foundation. The money will be administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation.
