John Gage, co-founder and chief scientist for Sun Microsystems, will join the Internet Society’s board of trustees to fill the remainder of the term belonging to the late Jon Postel.

At Sun, Gage is responsible for relationships with scientific organizations and public policy groups around the world. He is also Sun’s liaison to government bodies on matters relating to science and technology. His term on the Internet Society board ends next year.

In 1995, Gage helped create NetDay, a nationwide volunteer project that resulted in the wiring of more than 30,000 schools and libraries and connected them to the Internet.
