If city officials get their way, capital improvements will be made over the next few years to spruce up local parks, shore up streets and generally improve the city’s infrastructure, at a cost estimated at $29.7 million.

Officials presented their vision for the city’s future at a special council meeting last week. Possible funding sources for the proposed improvements include federal grants, bonds and the sale of city buildings and lots.

The plan includes upgrading cultural arts facilities, refurbishing or replacing public restrooms and acquiring a new ladder truck for the Fire Department.

One major proposal is a 15,000-square-foot skateboard park, estimated at $250,000, said Michael Henderson, parks and facilities superintendent.

Assistant City Manager Karen Burnham said the proposed projects would improve the quality of life for residents.
