The Public Works Department will install surveillance cameras at eight intersections during the next three months. But unlike some cities that use video equipment to cite drivers caught crossing red lights, Buena Park will use these photos only for observing traffic and improving the flow, said Paul Grimm, the city’s traffic engineer. The equipment can show if a car went through a red light but wouldn’t be able to pick up any detail, such as the license plate number, required for a ticket, Grimm said.

The city has installed four intersection cameras.
