Salvation Army Issues Plea for Canned Goods

The San Fernando Valley Salvation Army is making a plea for additional donations this holiday season to meet their goal of feeding 600 needy families for Christmas.

Salvation Army Capt. Luis Diaz said that as of Wednesday, his organization did not have enough canned goods to fill holiday food baskets that will be given out to families Dec. 21-23.

“People and organizations have not responded the way they have in past years,” Diaz said. “But there has been an influx of new families coming into this area and the need has increased.”

Diaz said canned goods may be brought to the Salvation Army’s Van Nuys office at 14917 Victory Blvd. They are also accepting cash donations, as well as new unwrapped toys.

“If people have canned goods available, now is the time to give because we need time to distribute them,” Diaz. “A small effort will mean a family that’s poor and has no means will enjoy a happy Christmas because of caring.”
