Video May Provide Clue to Fire’s Origin

It may take a video to determine how a fire began in a 3rd Street warehouse this week that damaged a warehouse filled with prerecorded videocassettes.

Investigators hope to view videotape from nearby surveillance cameras to determine how the fire began Tuesday night in the 500,000-square-foot building, which is occupied by Technicolor and two other businesses.

Firefighters continued sifting through piles of charred videotapes looking for clues.

We’re going to be sifting through everything,” said Battalion Chief Terry McAnally of the Oxnard Fire Department. It’s going to be another full day. We’re just trying to get it all out so we can start investigating.”

Employees spent Thursday clearing soaked copies of prerecorded tapes from the Technicolor distribution facility, while firefighters stood by to make sure the fire was out. Technicolor officials Thursday did not have an estimate of damages.

More than 70 firefighters from throughout the county battled dense smoke and toxic fumes during the blaze. The blaze was contained to a 15,000-square-foot area by automated sprinklers and did not spread to adjacent businesses in the building.
