Housing Project Gets Preliminary OK

The developer of a 652-unit project kept its proposal rolling toward final approval last week, as the Moorpark Planning Commission unanimously gave the preliminary go-ahead.

The Morrison-Fountainwood-Agoura project plans to build 532 houses and 120 apartments on 445 acres north of Charles Street and east of Walnut Canyon Road.

The commission, an advisory body for the City Council, approved a General Plan amendment, environmental impact report, zoning changes and a Specific Plan for the project.

The project still needs to be approved by the council, which will hold public hearings next year.

Planning Commissioner Gary Lowenberg said the commission placated residents’ concerns by restricting tractor-trailers from the future Spring Road extension.

Morrison-Fountainwood-Agoura has agreed to set aside 20 acres for a middle school, and to build an 11-acre park as part of the first development phase.
