Restaurant Gutted in Molotov Cocktail Attack

A predawn arson attack gutted a family-run Mexican restaurant on Monday, only days after a Molotov cocktail was tossed into another Mexican restaurant two doors away, authorities said.

Monday’s blaze, which started about 3:20 a.m., quickly engulfed Noemi’s Mexican Food, causing $170,000 in damage, said Tony Zamayoa, one of Noemi’s owners. One firefighter needed hospital treatment for a cut on his hand.

On Friday morning, around 3:40 a.m., a sheriff’s deputy saw flames inside Angie’s, which also sells Mexican food. The fire destroyed about $10,000 worth of property, according to Angie’s owner, Octaveo Mireles.

Molotov cocktails had been thrown through the windows of both places, officials said. The two fires may be linked, detectives said, but police had no motives.
