Moiso to Make Merry in Corona

Jerome Moiso’s family is too far away in Guadeloupe, West Indies, to allow a quick trip home over the holidays. The freshman forward, who spent the last four years at schools in Paris and Connecticut, doesn’t mind.

“I’m used to it by now,” he said.

Besides, this year he gets to celebrate Christmas with sophomore Todd Ramasar and his family in Corona. The Ramasars are the unofficial holiday hosts of the Bruins, having entertained the entire team shortly before UCLA departed for a Thanksgiving tournament in Puerto Rico.

“Two turkeys, two hams,” Ramasar said. “A lot of food, a lot of leftovers.”

This time it’s just Moiso and freshman center Dan Gadzuric, whose family is even farther away in Den Haag, the Netherlands. Ramasar’s mother, Gigi, was planning a home-cooked feast and Ramasar planned to show his teammates the sights of Riverside before they headed back to Westwood.

“We’ll go to the malls and the clubs,” he said. “I’ll take them to the movies. That’s what the guys want to do.”

Moiso, having survived his first few months of college basketball and classes, had something different in mind.

“I’m telling you right now,” he informed Ramasar, “I’m going to sleep.”
