Diabetic Seizure May Have Caused Crash
Police are investigating the possibility that a 28-year-old Anaheim woman may have had a diabetic seizure before she crashed her car head-on into a minivan in Fullerton on Saturday night, injuring four people, one critically.
Lauren Vonderharr, an 8-year-old from La Mirada, was in critical condition Sunday, officials at UCI Medical Center said in Orange.
The girl underwent surgery Saturday night, said Fullerton Police Sgt. Don Pearce. Vonderharr was riding in a minivan with her family when the crash occurred about 9:20 p.m.
Police said Mela Rodriguez, who is seven months pregnant, was southbound in her Ford Mustang on Harbor Boulevard near Santa Fe Avenue when she swerved into the northbound lanes of Harbor Boulevard and crashed into a 1991 Ford Aerostar.
Rodriguez, who was alone in the car, was in serious but stable condition at Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim with a broken thigh bone.
The driver of the minivan, Timothy Vonderharr, and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
