A natural gas pipeline exploded in a rural hamlet in northern Colombia on Sunday, killing at least 12 people, injuring 80 and setting dozens of homes ablaze, authorities said.

The cause of the blast in Arroyo de Piedra, about 400 miles north of Bogota, was unknown, but it appeared to be an accident, authorities said. There was no indication that guerrillas were responsible.

At least 50 homes were destroyed, officials said.
