Nike’s campaign in response to the NBA lockout--in particular the spot with Spike Lee taunting a high school girl’s basketball team and the spot featuring an over-40 basketball team flailing away helplessly on the court--gets my vote for the best ads. Smart, cutting, funny and confident.

The worst ads are from the Old Navy campaign featuring ancient personalities made to chant “Performance Fleece.” The ads actually made me swear never to buy the product.

Nike’s ads are creative, often amusing, always with a message and always well done. The variety is impressive and can appeal to almost any age. (I am a 61-year-old woman.) I play tennis, golf and hike and really don’t like Nike shoes. But its commercials always delight!

The worst ad is from Lucent Technologies. The commercial uses an out-of-date typeface to tout Lucent’s technology and has an annoying monotone voice in the background. Cheap and lacking creativity.
