Saying it is “extremely disappointed” in how the Los Alamitos Unified School District Board is handling the issue of a new Orange County High School of the Arts, the City Council is planning to hold its own hearings on the subject. The school board canceled a hearing on the project scheduled for Monday night, saying it was not needed. It also is not preparing an environmental impact report.

A statement from City Manager Robert Dominguez says the “City Council is extremely disappointed that the school district has sought to circumvent state environmental protection laws. This latest action seriously erodes the trust needed for a cooperative effort between the city and the school district in the interest of the students.”

The City Council hearing will be Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, 3191 Katella Ave.
