Welfare Statists Enjoy the Benefits

Kenneth L. Khachigian need not look for a metaphysical explanation for the workings of the liberal mind (“A Disconnect by Ferraro on Welfare,” Jan. 18).

There is a mundane explanation. The proponents of welfare as we have known it are a vast bureaucracy, perhaps parasitic, that makes a living from administering and huckstering welfare.

Individual bureaucrats may indeed have admirable personal stories like Geraldine Ferraro. They may have worked hard to arrive at their spots on the gravy train.
