Wilkinson Cartoon

As someone who usually can’t believe the lack of humor and narrow-mindedness of letter writers who criticize the cartoons found in the editorial pages, I confess that I am now one of them.

Your Jan. 22 cartoon by Signe Wilkinson comparing the rape of the Maryland college girls [in Guatemala] to alleged consensual sex in the White House is appalling. Rape is not fodder for political humor. The president is a public figure and can expect his foibles to be publicized. Those girls, already suffering unimaginable trauma, do not warrant such cavalier treatment. Shame on whoever allowed this cartoon to be published.
