A recent “Politically Incorrect” satirizing the current situation in Washington was pretty hard to take. The skit based on Jerry Springer’s talk show was bearable (barely) but the commentary later by Bill Maher’s guests seemed quite objectionable for ABC.

The comments by the male guest whom Maher introduced as his longtime companion were quite raunchy, and the network didn’t bleep enough out. In the perennial race to assure a top rating, Maher doesn’t seem to know quite how to control his show. His eyes dart around the group nervously (with good reason), and he doesn’t seem to know how to get it back on track.

We have watched Maher over the years and knew he was off-center, but ABC needs to consider looking into this show, which has a premium slot after ‘Nightline.”

When is funny not funny? Watching the sleazy humor used in regard to President Clinton on the David Letterman show recently was one good example. And it astounded me that Jay Leno was making jokes about soon-to-be-executed Karla Faye Tucker.

All of this was disturbing to watch and certainly not funny. It’s one thing to take advantage of the 1st Amendment. It’s another thing to milk it to its lowest depth.
