Auxiliary to Donate 850 Coloring Books

A local nonprofit organization of doctors’ spouses will donate educational coloring books to West Valley public elementary schools.

Members of the Los Angeles County Medical Assn. Auxiliary District 6, representing the West Valley, will deliver 850 books to nine schools in Canoga Park and Reseda next week, said Evelyn Diorio, auxiliary president.

Local restaurants will also donate crayons to the schools as part of the project.

The 45-member auxiliary purchased three sets of books--one on safety, another on self-esteem and a third on fitness--for $450 from the American Medical Assn. with money raised through fund-raisers and donations, she said. They will be distributed to the schools for second- and third-graders.

“I think they’re great because they will allow children to learn as well as color,” said Linda Barr, coordinator at Cantera Elementary, one of the Reseda-area schools getting the books.

Other schools receiving the books are Reseda, Blythe, Shirley and Vanalden in Reseda, and Capistrano, Fullbright, Justice and Winnetka in Canoga Park.
