Rain Won’t Cancel Charity Walk/Run

Share

Neither rain nor sleet will keep walkers and runners from their goal of raising money for the American Heart Assn. on Sunday.

Or so the association hopes.

Officials said that in the 13 years the walk/run has been held in Warner Center it has never been canceled because of rain.

Although an association spokeswoman said she is unsure how inclement weather would affect attendance, the event is scheduled to go on as planned, and officials hope to raise $105,000 for heart and stroke research and education programs.

The event, which is an official warmup race for the Los Angeles Marathon, attracts more than 5,000 people annually, including runners, walkers and spectators.

It consists of 5K and 10K run and walk races, a 1-mile Home Depot Kids Walk and a free health expo at the finish line.

Starting times for the races vary, but participants are asked to meet at the corner of Oxnard Street and Owensmouth Avenue before 8 a.m. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m.

The 5K run will start at 8 a.m., followed five minutes later by the 5K walk, and the 10K run is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m.

Registration fees are $5 for the Kids Walk, and $18 for other races.
