UCI to Honor Benefactors at Dedication, Symposium

Share

UC Irvine will dedicate a building at its College of Medicine and sponsor a medical symposium to honor philanthropists Dr. S. Jerome and Judith Tamkin.

The Tamkins have made many financial gifts to the college over the past two decades. More recently, in July, the Tamkins, through their Los Angeles-based foundation, gave $1 million to the medical school.

At a dedication ceremony Thursday, Medical Sciences F will be renamed the Dr. S. Jerome and Judith D. Tamkin Student Lecture Building. The event begins with a reception at 5 p.m. followed by the dedication ceremony at 6 p.m.

On Friday, the College of Medicine will host an all-day Tamkin Medical Informatics Symposium at the newly dedicated building.

Dr. Tamkin was a founding director of American Medical International, the first publicly held hospital chain, and has been active in the medical field for the past 35 years. His son, Gary, earned his medical degree at UCI in 1992 and was president of the student body.
