Ojai Man on Storytellers Board of Directors

Brian Bemel of Ojai has been selected to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for the National Storytelling Assn. Bemel will attend his first meeting in Jonesborough, Tenn., the end of this month. Bemel produces family oriented performance and entertainment series such as “Pieces of the World,” the Ventura County Children’s Festival and other programs.

Cricket Magazine Honors Young Poet * Nine-year-old Meredith Ganon of Westlake Village received an Honorable Mention in Cricket magazine’s November 1997 poetry competition. Entrants were asked to write a food-themed poem. Each month the children’s literature publication conducts a writing or art competition that draws 700 to 800 entries.

GTE Awards Grant to Children’s Museum * GTE awarded Ventura County Gull Wings Children’s Museum a $5,000 grant to fund its monthly multicultural and environmental special events.
