Lessons in the Rain

Share

I want to thank the man who provided my two children, Kate and Megan, with such a valuable learning experience [one recent] rainy morning. Traveling on Ventura Boulevard and approaching Carpenter Avenue in Studio City, we noticed that there was an accident being cleared in the intersection, causing a delay. Needing to change lanes to make the turn to Carpenter Avenue Elementary, I turned on my right-turn signal and hoped that you would allow me to enter your lane. Not only did you not slow down, you appeared to speed up. Positive that you must not have seen my turn signal, I tooted my horn as my older daughter rolled down her window to wave to you to ask you to please let us in. Again you responded by speeding up. And you held up your middle finger as you slowly started to pass us.

How did it feel to know that you had just “flipped-off’ an 11-year-old girl, her 8-year-old sister and her mother? It gave my daughters an opportunity to realize that you can’t always tell who a person is by their looks. Because you looked like a really nice guy. Seems we were wrong. And hence the lesson. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.
