Share

More than 100 Valley business and civic leaders are expected to attend the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn.’s fifth annual Membership and Committee Fair on Wednesday.

The event is a chance for members to strategize about the organization’s efforts to improve business in the San Fernando Valley.

It is also an opportunity for nonmembers, both area business owners and residents, to join the organization, which has been promoting the economic vitality of the region since 1949.

“It’s a great opportunity for nonmembers to get involved,” said Jeri Gerner, co-chairwoman of the membership committee.

During the fair, members will choose which committees they would like to serve on and discuss the creation of new committees.

* The creation of the San Fernando Valley Transit Authority and the Valley Transit Zone.

* Municipal incorporation.

* Charter reform.

* Los Angeles Unified School District improvements.

* Fast-track trade legislation.

* San Fernando Valley business improvement districts.

* Environment, water and utilities, including deregulation.

* LAX Master Plan.

* The Van Nuys General Aviation Airport.

The free public event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Landings restaurant in the Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean Ave. in Van Nuys.
