Abortion

Re “The High (and Violent) Price of Losing Choice,” Opinion, Feb. 1: Paul Ruffins’ article on abortion should be required reading for all who call themselves “pro-life.” A more accurate term for those who would deny a woman the right to choose abortion is “pro-birth,” for the birth of the fetus, not the life of the child, is all these people are truly concerned with.

If the life of the child were truly paramount, we would see all the anti-abortion protesters up in arms over cuts in welfare spending, lack of affordable child care and health care, lack of treatment programs for drug-addicted parents, etc. For these and many other things are what truly matter in the life of a child, not simply the act of giving birth being forced on the mother.
