LAX Wins Award for Revamped Food Service

The food is tastier and more diverse, and it’s no longer a terminal experience, so to speak.

That’s why restaurant owners and executives recently gave Los Angeles International Airport the first Restaurant Industry Innovation Award for its “successful culinary make-over” and expansion of food services throughout the airport over the last four years.

For 30 years LAX contracted with only one food and beverage service. In recent years the airport has expanded its concessions operation to include more than 65 nationally recognized restaurants and fast-food operations. Those additions have contributed to a 38% growth in total food and beverage sales at the airport, increasing from $55 million in 1994 to an estimated $76 million this year.

“We took a bold new direction with airport food and this award confirms that we made the right decision,” said Patricia Schnegg, vice president of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners.
