Bryant Considered for World Team

Share

Continuing to turn potential into the reality of today, Kobe Bryant has emerged as a serious candidate to fill one of the final two vacant spots for this summer’s world championships in Greece, according to one insider.

“I think he’s certainly somebody that’ll be considered,” the high-placed source said. “In some ways, he’s exactly the type of player USA Basketball is looking for. He’s very athletic and can play different positions. That tends to be the type of guy the selection committee likes.”

Another Laker guard, Eddie Jones, also remains a candidate.

“My guess is that there’s eight or 10 guys who are serious possibilities,” the source said. “And I think you’d have to say both of them are in that group.”

The roster is expected to be completed in April. The decision will come from a 10-member selection committee.
