Smith Micro Software Inc.: The Aliso Viejo provider of communication software for personal computers said net income for the fourth quarter was $44,000, or less than 1 cent a share, compared with $541,000, or 4 cents a share, for the comparable 1996 period. Revenue declined 33% to $3.3 million from $4.9 million. For the year, the company reported a net loss of $1.6 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $1.5 million, or 11 cents a share, for 1996. The 1996 figure included a $5.2-million charge for writing off costs of research and development related to the acquisition of Performance Computing Inc. Revenue dropped 47% to $11.7 million from $22.1 million.
