STORYLINE: Picabo Street already has a gold medal in these Winter Olympics and now comes her specialty. Street won a silver medal in this event at Lillehammer in 1994, but on the heels of her gold in the women’s super-G, expectations are high for the woman from Triumph, Idaho.

WHO TO WATCH: Street, Katja Seizinger of Germany, the defending champion, Isolde Kostner of Italy and Renate Goetschl of Austria. Pernilla Wiberg, the defending world champion in the downhill, is coming back from injury. Warwara Zelenskaja of Russia won twice on the Hakuba course last year.

IN QUOTES: Street on winning the super-G: “This gives me confidence, is what it does. Because this is my first time ever skiing on this hill and I won a gold medal on it. So I think I can do al right in the downhill.”

Location: Happo’one Ski Area in Hakuba

Starting order: Determined by skiers’ worldwide ranking, except for the top 15 competitors, whose order is determined by draw.

Winner: Determined after one run, usually by hundredths of a second.
