One Who Knows Better

As the writer and director of “Swing,” I thought I was making a music-oriented romantic comedy set in Liverpool about an optimistic guy (Hugo Speer) having learned the saxophone in jail (from Clarence Clemons) coming out and forming a swing band and winning his girlfriend (Lisa Stansfield) back after she had married his arresting officer (Danny McCall).

However, after reading your Jan. 29 photo caption, I discover I am really making a film about “five down-and-out working-class men who are about to fulfill their dreams” by forming a swing band, which sounds remarkably similar to “‘The Full Monty”!

I would like to thank the L.A. Times for actually making me aware of what it is I am doing as I thought I was doing something completely different!
