An X-ray of Washington State basketball player Carlos Daniel’s ankle showed there was no fracture, the team said Friday.

But it is not known whether Daniel, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, can play in this afternoon’s game against Oregon State.

Dr. Richard Donati, the team physician, said Daniel is suffering from a high ankle sprain-bone bruise on his left ankle.

Daniel suffered the injury with about 11 minutes left in Thursday’s loss to Oregon.

“Carlos has been on crutches all day,” Coach Kevin Eastman said. “Obviously, we’ll know a little bit more the morning of the game.”

Texas El Paso’s Hall of Fame basketball coach has fired a stinging parting shot at a departing athletics administrator who had been considered a leading contender for the athletic director’s job.

Don Haskins issued a statement Thursday saying he felt betrayed by interim athletic director Barbara Burke after she reprimanded him for comments during what he thought was a private discussion.

Haskins, one of the 10 all-time winningest Division I coaches, said he would have considered retiring if Burke had stayed on.

“I am extremely happy she is going to Wyoming and my sympathies go out to the unfortunate souls who find themselves under her supervision,” Haskins said.

Burke declined to comment on Haskins’ statement. “I have no problem with Coach Haskins,” she said.
