From Staff Reports

Pepperdine junior center omm’A Givens, who broke the jaw of teammate Aaron Butler during practice Jan. 13, has been suspended the rest of the season by the school.

Givens, a 6-foot-11 transfer from UCLA, was suspended for two games and sat out a third last month after punching Butler, a 6-2 walk-on. Givens, who had been a starter, resumed playing as a reserve for five games before Friday’s announcement.

No charges were brought against Givens after a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigation.

Givens appealed the punishment handed down by a three-person faculty panel, but it was denied by D’Esta Love, Pepperdine’s dean of students. Givens is attending class and can rejoin the team in the fall.
