Clinton Scandal

Share

Re “Why the President Is Riding High,” by Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr., Commentary, Feb. 11: I take exception to his dismissal of President Clinton’s alleged affair with Monica Lewinsky as a matter that “most Americans think should be private.”

No so. Clinton is no ordinary citizen who indulged in a supposedly secret romance. He is president. And he carried on in a shameful, brazen manner with a 21-year-old girl for whom he was a quasi-guardian. Where did this take place? In the White House, the people’s hallowed national home.

Immorality and then lying about it are important issues. They are very important to me and to millions of American citizens.

* It’s beyond me how anyone could believe what the unworthy accusers of the president are saying. President Clinton has the cares of the world on his shoulders and is doing a good job despite all the harassment he has been subjected to. The media have sunk to a new low.

* * We the people have told our government leaders to stay out of our bedroom. Now we the people want to stay out of our president’s bedroom.

* * As a qualification for voting on impeachment, members of Congress should be required to testify under oath as to whether they have ever had an extramarital affair. Then we can count the votes.

* * Our president knows the truth. He knows all the facts concerning his relationship with Monica. He is completely free to make those facts public and chooses not to. Is our president afraid of the truth? If he would tell us the truth, the tremendous costs forced upon us to find the truth another way would not be necessary.

All indications are that America is in for another classic and very expensive O.J. trial.
