Amgen has named to its board of directors Frederick W. Gluck, a member of the board of directors of Bechtel Enterprises, who recently retired as vice chairman of the Bechtel Group.

The appointment brings to nine the number of directors on Thousand Oaks-based Amgen’s board.

As Bechtel vice chairman, Gluck, 62, oversaw the firm’s global industry units, plus its corporate support services, alliances and strategic marketing and analysis. Before joining Bechtel, Gluck spent 27 years with McKinsey & Co., a global management consulting firm, as a partner and director.

Gluck is also vice chairman of the board of governors of the Society of New York Hospital, chairman of the board of directors of New York Hospital Care Network, and a member of the joint administrative board of New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center.

“Amgen is fortunate to have a leader with Fred Gluck’s depth of knowledge and experience in health care and business join our board,” said Gordon Binder, chairman and chief executive officer of the biotechnology company. “We hope to benefit from Fred’s global vision, experience and perspective.”
