The new Performing Arts Center at Cal State Northridge is looking for volunteers to serve as ushers at shows, help publicize events and organize special programs and activities. Volunteers are needed at the California Emergency Mobile Patrol, a nonprofit organization that provides search-and-rescue, disaster response, communications and first-aid services and other community assistance in the Valley. The Burbank Retired & Senior Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers 55 and older interested in working with terminally ill patients and their families in their homes. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Docent Council is seeking volunteers with an interest or background in art to lead scheduled tours and student groups through the museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. An intensive, yearlong training program prepares docents for the job. Once trained, volunteers are expected to make a commitment for a specified period of time.
