One of the most sensational trials of the 19th century is the subject of Moises Kaufman’s “Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde.” The play, which wowed New York critics when it appeared off-Broadway, is based on original court transcripts, letters and other works by Wilde and his contemporaries as the celebrated playwright is prosecuted for homosexuality.

Not all is as it appears when two middle-aged couples get together for dinner after a Broadway show, in the return of Anne Meara’s hit comedy “After-Play,” opening Tuesday at the Canon Theatre after a sellout run at the Pasadena Playhouse in November. Beatrice Arthur, Paul Dooley, Robert Mandan and Marian Mercer reprise their roles. Times reviewer Don Shirley called it “a funny venting opportunity for the post-50, pre-70 crowd.”
