Cloning Bill

So Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) is opposed to a ban on human cloning because his daughter has diabetes and more research may benefit her (“Bill to Ban Human Cloning Stalled in Senate,” Feb. 12). So much for tackling our complex scientific problems with a larger worldview of their consequences.

Perhaps at his advanced senility, the aged senator’s narrow-minded family self-interest is even due some degree of respect. But please don’t let this man clone himself before this ban is passed by the Senate! One Strom Thurmond for this country has been enough.
