Volunteers Sought to Read to Students
Teachers at Jordan Elementary School don’t care whether your skills at reading aloud are shaky or sharp. They just want you to read to their kids.
No volunteer will be turned away from participation in Read Across America Day, said teacher Robin Moore.
The school is preparing for a reading blitzkrieg on March 2, which is also the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the late Theodor Geisel.
Ideally, people from various backgrounds would come in for 15 to 20 minutes and prove to students that everybody reads, Moore said.
The experience can be good for the reader too: Moore said she was a bookkeeper when she volunteered to read a few years ago and was so taken with the classroom that she became a teacher herself.
Interested readers should call the school at (714) 997-6187 and schedule a time. Spanish-speaking readers are also welcome.
